Messrs John Smith and John Falconer have been employed three years, and two years respectively, during which periods their behavior has been sober, steady, and respectable. We have the most reliable testimony of their conduct being orderly at the several post offices here on the evening of the 19th Sept; last, when we requested them to apply for our Overland Mail Correspondence and Newspapers which had arrived by the Mail Steamer on the morning of that day.
We therefore think the Police prosecution by the Post Master of Hong Kong against them vindictive and uncalled for, under the circumstances.
